Quick answer

If you visit several regions, get an all-in-one adapter covering US, EU, UK and AU plugs. From our research, the Zendure Passport III suits laptop users (up to 65W from one USB-C port), the EPICKA TA-105 offers lots of ports, and the Anker Nano Travel Adapter is the most compact. For one region only, a simple plug adapter like the Ceptics Type C is cheaper and smaller. None of these convert voltage.

Adapters are not voltage converters

An adapter changes the plug shape, not the voltage. Most phone and laptop chargers accept 100–240V (check the label), but many hair dryers, straighteners and kettles don’t. Plugging a single-voltage appliance into a higher-voltage outlet can damage it.

How we chose

Research-based, not hands-on tested: we compared maker specifications and published reviews. How we choose gear.

What to look for

  • Plug coverage: most all-in-ones cover US, EU, UK and Australia. Check the specific countries you’ll visit. For example, EPICKA states the TA-105 Pro doesn’t fit India (Type D) or South Africa (Type M) sockets.
  • USB charging power: phones charge fine at 20W; laptops usually need 45–65W or more from a single USB-C port.
  • The AC outlet: some compact adapters only accept two-pin plugs, so grounded three-prong plugs won’t fit.
  • Protection: look for a fuse or overload protection. “Surge protection” claims vary, and some adapters state they have none.
  • Size: a bulky adapter can block neighboring sockets or droop out of loose wall outlets.

FAQ

Do I need a voltage converter?

Only for appliances that aren’t rated for your destination’s voltage. Check the label: if it says 100–240V, an adapter is enough.

Can I use one adapter for every country?

An all-in-one covers most destinations, but not all. Check your destination’s plug type before you go.
